Fabulous Sculptural Work with Amazing Patina

Superb quality antique carved vessel, representing the epitome of the early scholar's aesthetic. Handsome, sculptural form with a strong, harmonious presence. This tasteful basket was hand carved from undulating Chinese root wood, and bears an absolutely exquisite patina from years of use and appreciation.

These baskets were originally used in the scholar's studio during the era between 1600 and 1900 in China and Japan for holding brushes, flower displays, smoking accoutrements, or as hand warmers. Today these sculptural pieces make stunning artistic display and conversation pieces. Outstanding from any angle with smoothly polished areas that have been naturally patinated by decades of handling. If only this piece could tell of the history it quietly witnessed.

Both pleasing visually and also tactilely inviting. Must be experienced in person to fully appreciate the feel and craftsmanship. Of significant size, measuring approximately 10 inches high. Sublime literati style craftsmanship with exceptionally artistic contours.
