Mid/late 19th needlepoint c. 1860 or slightly later. Worked in wool on gauze, this needlepoint is just delightful with fine quality stitch work throughout. The scene is a charming one of a young girl with long pigtails carrying a large quantity of flowers in her apron with one hand. Her other hand is holding a flower high as her pet kid goat tries to retrieve it. The happy couple are framed by trees and shrubs with a cloudy sky, hills and an expanse of water in the distance. There is a small amount of visible gauze down the left side edge of the stitching which shows it has minor discolouration. The needlepoint is behind glass so I'm not able to see the reverse, but the colours of the wool appear good though they are likely to have mellowed to some extent over the years. There are a few small areas of stitch loss across the bottom edge and a few of what appear to be small pin marks around the edges of the stitching. The needlepoint is contained within its seemingly original good quality rosewood frame with gilt slip. Both are in good condition with the frame having some light scratches and scuff marks and the slip retaining most of its gilding. Measures 11 1/4" x 13" (sight size) and 16 1/2" x 18 1/4" PLEASE NOTE - ANY MARKS ETC ON THE PHOTOGRAPHS WHICH I'VE NOT ALREADY MENTIONED ARE FROM THE GLARE AND REFLECTION OF THE GLASS AND NOT ON THE NEEDLEPOINT ITSELF. ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK. ALSO PLEASE CHECK OUT THE OTHER SAMPLERS I'M SELLING. I AM HAPPY TO COMBINE POSTAGE ON MULTIPLE PURCHASES.
