Mdina Michael Harris Blown Art Glass Vase Malta 1970s Earthtones 8" Tall Signed

This exceptional Maltese art glass vase features a unique brown abstract swirl design. It was handmade at Mdina and designed by Michael Harris in the early 1970’s. The hand-blown glass has a tall cylindrical shape with a slight widening at the top. The vase has a brown swirl running around the body set against a yellow ground. Mdina glass was founded in 1968 by Michael Harris on the Island of Malta. Michael was a lecturer in industrial glass design at the Royal College of Art in London and moved to the island to create Malta’s first art glass company.  

The vase is signed Mdina on the base. Many of the designs created by Michael Harris continued to be made at Mdina Glass after he left, and new designs and patterns were added. The company is still active today. Excellent pre-owned condition, especially after more than 50 years, with only a couple of minor blemishes that are very hard to even find. Some bubbles and artifacts from the handblowing process are much more visible. It's a heavy piece at approx.  2 lbs. and measures about 8" tall × 3-1/4" at the base x 3" at the top.
