Seller: seawhale1 (1,020) 100%, Location: Saint Petersburg, Florida, Ships to: US & many other countries, Item: 302738998599 I recently purchased this granite rock egg at an estate sale in Englewood, FL. It was in the home of Eugene Behlen. He is the retired Chief of the office of exhibits for the anthropology department at the smithsonian museum in Washington DC. I will be listing more items from that unbelievable sale. This solid granite egg weighs exactly 16 pounds. It has formed grooves all around the rock in east to west directions and north to south directions. It is equally divided into 4 quadrants. Mr. Behlen had several items of Native American origins which I am especially interested in. He also had Asian and African items so I can’t tell you where this came from. I can tell you that these items were once housed at the Smithsonian. That is the information I was give from the agency conducting the sale. Mr. Behlen now suffers from Alzheimer’s disease so I cannot get any further info on this rock. I wish I knew what the purpose was. I have contacted the Rice museum and will be talking with them next week and if I learn further info, I will pass that along. I can tell you with certainty that this is an ancient historical piece which is rare and museum quality. Please feel free to share your thoughts or comments. I know I paid a considerable amount of money but not certain of its value and I’m just putting this amount out there. It’s size is approximately 8” tall. It is 20” x 21” In circumference.
