Seller: clancy_kid (12,773) 100%, Location: Clancy, Montana, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 371676680670 An excellent standard size light AMETHYST LAVENDAR colored antique GLASS DOOR knobs. This is an early glass knob, dating back well over 100 years old, over ONE CENTURY OLD and in a light purple color. Condition: This knob is in NICE CLEAN condition. The glass has some light wear in the way of a few flakes and a light scratch here and there, nothing significant. The brass collar on the knob is likewise in very good condition. It is missing teh small set screw, as seen in the pictures, but otherwise it is just fine. Many of these old knobs that you see are pretty worn out, brass dented and tarnished, and/or with layers of paint and varnish on them, the glass beat up and dirty or painted over and loosely fitting into the brass setting. This one has none of those issues, it sets nice and firmly into the brass fitting with no play. It is in amazingly good condition with just enough wear to give it the rustic look that a century old doorknob should have! Age: This brass and glass knob is an early, mold blown knob and the sun color amethyst dates it back ca. late 1800's maybe very early 1900. Shipping: All DOMESTIC shipping charges INCLUDE insurance. We have enjoyed shipping our items all over the world and are happy to offer most of our items to international buyers. Yet insuring International parcels is very expensive so PLEASE NOTE; we do NOT insure International orders unless winning buyer specifically requests this and we are able to provide an insurance quote. We do not falsify information on the Customs Form, such as a price other than what the actual purchase price is, so please do not request us to do so. We ship several times a week and send payment acknowledgments and shipping confirmations. Your prompt payment will assure a very quick turn-around time. IMPORTANT NOTE: If our shipping charge is much more than the actual shipping cost, we will refund the excess so what YOU pay for shipping/insurance is very close to, if not exactly, the ACTUAL shipping costs! This is especially important for foreign buyers to know as most of our foreign shipping charges are rough estimates. You don't often see these older style glass knobs that have the light amethyst color to them. Usually you see the newer glass knobs which have a completely different style of glass, machine made, and at best have a light yellow tint color to the glass, post-1920. Not only can this lavendar knob be used functionally as a glass door knob in an old home, but these are multi-functioning. We have seen them used as coat hangers and also (don't underestimate this one) they are used as stick shift knobs on vintage cars and pick-trucks, nice! Then .... there's the purple color, a beautiful color, the beautiful purple amethyst color of this glass is the result of the presence of manganese in the glass, a mineral that was pulverized and added to vats of liquid glass that acted as a decolorizing agent to turn the glass crystal clear. Exposure to ultraviolet rays of the sun or other sources of UV rays, triggers a chemical reaction and the manganese oxidizes and turns a wonderful amethyst color. With few exceptions, only clear glass from before 1914 will turn sun-colored-amethyst. Not only does this light purple / amethyst color make this a great looking antique glass door knob, but it also authenticates it as being truly antique, check it out!
