Details: This auction is for the exquisite Antique Porcelain Japanese (Nippon Period) Large MORIAGE Vase, made ca. 1890-1900. The vase is hand painted with beautiful chrysanthemums, rich and hand gilded with intricate raised pattern. Vases like this were made between 1890 and 1925. The bottom of the vase and inside has a bluish glaze typical for the early Nippon pieces.

MORIAGE is a special type of raised decoration. Moriage pieces were often unmarked and were known for their highly stylized decorations and gilding.

THIS IS A GORGEOUS CABINET PIECE THAT WOULD CERTAINLY BE A SHOWSTOPPER IN ANY FINE COLLECTION.

The word “Nippon” was used as the Japanese word for “Japan,” and was used until about 1921/22, at which point the word Nippon was changed to Japan.

The Large MORIAGE Vase is as seen in the photos.

Measurements : The Vase measures approx. 9" tall and 7" wide.

Condition: The exquisite Antique Porcelain Japanese Nippon MORIAGE Vase is in very good condition with some age related wear to the gilding. Gold (mostly 22K) used for the gilding in Japan is very soft and in many cases it is significantly warn during many years of handling.  This vase is very nice and only gilding of handles was warn in places of handling. No chips, cracks or restoration
