A pre-Columbian painted terra cotta vessel in the form of a tapir. Provenance written on piece of paper inserted inside the tapir says: "Dr. Donald Brockington UNC says 1000 AD - 1492 AD, probably Cost Rica - a tapir" Dr. Brockington taught in the University of North Carolina's Anthropology department from 1967 to 1996. He wrote, edited or coauthored scores of articles in English and Spanish, and received numerous awards, grants, and fellowships relating to his archeology work into the Bolivian Andes and Amazon. He served as Chairperson from 1980 to 1985. This piece measures 7.25" long by 3.75" high. Antique condition is as shown, one leg was re-attached at the body.
