Seller: wetcoast-99 (737) 100%, Location: Victoria, British Columbia, Ships to: US, CA, GB, DE, FR, Item: 123353166620 Today I am offering a very special and rare necklace from my collection. This is a lovely and unique selection of pumtek beads strung as found. I think it is a mixture of both ancient and antique pumtek beads. Pumtek means “buried thunderbolt” and these beads are important heirlooms among the Chin, who live in the Chin Hills of western Myanmar (formerly Burma). Pumtek beads are made from fossil palmwood, which is a kind of non-precious opal. Pumtek were made from opalized palmwood about 1500-2000 years ago and etched in various distinctive patterns. As with dZi beads, no one is sure of the exact process by which the beads were etched. This necklace has 24 round beads of varying sizes, two elongated beads and a square bead in the center (this one has a chip in one corner). Have a good look at the pictures for condition and judge their quality for yourself. I have included pictures of the necklace under UV/Black light, which shows many of the beads glowing. I collect beads and am by no means an expert, but I can tell old from not. These are old. They have a nice weight and feel to them. They are stone. The clasp is silver and care was taken putting the necklace together. If you have any questions, please let me know and i will do my best to answer them. Condition: Used, Condition: See photos for condition and details... They are old so they show their age.
