This is a stunning pair of porcelain footed demitasse cups and saucers, made by Rosenthal of Germany in a pattern called Queen’s Bouquet. You know the saying, “fit for a Queen”? Well these most definitely are! They are decorated with an exquisite design of roses and flowers accented with a shiny gold filigree and trim. The roses and flowers also decorate the inside of the cup on both sides.
There is a cartouche backstamp on these that was used from 1925 to around 1941 for distribution to the U.S. by the Rosenthal China corporation out of New York, according to collectrosenthal.com. The cartouche backstamp was added on top of the already present Rosenthal backstamp to meet US regulations. Apparently the original Rosanthal mark can sometimes be seen under the cartouche when placed under a strong light, but I looked with a flashlight and couldn’t see the original on these.
The set is in excellent vintage to possibly antique shape (83-99 years old!) with no chips, cracks, stains, or crazing. There is minimal wear to the gold and flowers. I am guessing these were barely used, and likely put on display because they are so lovely.
The cups are 2 inches tall, and about 3 inches in diameter and hold 1/4 cup easily. The saucers are 4 & 3/4 inches in diameter. The porcelain is very thin and fine and one set weighs just over 3 & 1/2 ounces. The last picture shows the cup and saucer next to a standard teacup so you can get a good idea of it’s size.
Please zoom in on the pictures and see the 360 degree video for a closer look and see that gold shine!
