This is a scarce, very hard to find, fine condition, fancy Antique hand forged, hand double silver mounted, hand engraved, custom made to order matching set of kids spurs with fancy original embossed, suede leather lined, chumitiado (caterpillar in Spanish) green and black wool tuft spur straps. These kids size spurs are rare, and custom made to order. In wealthy South of the Border Charro families, the kids would sometimes have spurs and even complete outfits identical to their Father's Charro outfit, but in a smaller size. You would have had to have been a wealthy Padre to have a custom made to order pair of silver inlaid & engraved kids spurs like these. About 3 3/4" long, and made for a young buckaroo, cowboy, or cowgirl. This pair with straps, weighs 10.6 ounces, or 301 grams. The heel band openings have a 2 3/4" measurement at the open end, and custom made for a child in the pre- teen to young teenage range. The outside heel bands are silver inlaid with silver inlaid borders on both the top and bottom that are hand engraved in a wavy zig zag pattern decoration. The outside heel band center panels have 8 individual silver inlaid and engraved designs in a flower and leaf motif with 3 contrasting types of engraving; line, feather and stippled (textured) engraved patterns. The inside heel bands are silver inlaid in a traditional diagonal striped pattern with 22 individual silver inlays. Both the outside & inside unusual triangular shaped shanks are silver inlaid with 2 silver inlaid and engraved leaf patterns with zig zag border engraving and fine line engraving. Note that almost all kid spurs have 6 tined rowels. Being hand forged, tines also vary and are about 1 1/8" in diameter. The outside rowel tines are silver inlaid with wavy zig zag engraving. Rowell tine silver is the first thing to wear on any spur, but tall 12 tines have all of the orginal silver inlays. The inside iron rowels are unadorned. The outside rowel pins have small bullet shaped rowel pin finials with the inside pin peened over. The 5/8" diameter slightly domed outside buttons have a 4-leaf clover pattern divided by zig zag engraving to form 4 silver panels, each with punch dot centers. The inside buttons are plain iron. All the swingers, pins and buttons are original and match. All the silver inlays are intact with some expected small dings to the inside striped heel bands near the shanks from actual saddle wear, probably from metal stirrups. In my opinion, there is no such thing as an unused pair of fancy antique custom made to order kids spurs. Overall, with light to dark natural aged patina with a few remnants of the original bluing and traces on the inside of the heel bands. This pair is complete with the original fancy embossed, caterpillar decoration and suede leather lined tooled spur straps with nickel buckles showing patina. As is common in matching spur straps, different pieces of leather can be used for the 4 piece straps or 4 piece buckle tabs, as this pair. The straps are identical, with one leather outside embossed strap appears to be made with a different piece of leather and has now aged to be darker than the other strap. The straps are in fine condition and are extremely rare to find any original pair of straps on kid's spurs, especially fancy pair. Mexican leather has a very poor tanning process and tears, rips, and disintegrates much faster than other tanned leather, and has a very short lifespan for spur straps. These fancy kid’s straps are as rare as the spurs and add substantial value and eye appeal. It is extremely hard to find a matching set of Antique, quality, fine conditioned, double mounted, silver inlaid & engraved kid’s spurs in fine condition; especially with fine, original fancy period leather spur straps. These spurs come from South of the Border, down Mexico way. These scarce Kid's spurs have lots of eye appeal and would make a handsome Old West decoration, Cowboy, Vaquero, Horse Trapping, Equestrian, Spur, Kids Spur, or Western Americana or South of the Border display or conversation piece; or could actually be worn if desired by some lucky young buckaroo.
