Item:173280656733Rare Bronze Multi-armed Hindu God 'Ganesha Khmer Angkok Wat 'Bayon' Style 18th C Lord Ganesha, the elehpant-headed deity,son of Shiva and Parvati.The standing figure is a rare version of the Hindu deity, sculpted with precise detailing.In Indian mythology,Ganesha is God of the universal popularity among Hindu's,an icon of luck and prosperity. He is revered as the god who eradicates danger,a god of prudence and diplomacy and is portrayed as an idol with the body of a man and the head of an elephant, having only one tusk. Ganesha's head is symbolic of the wisdom of the elephant and represents man's eternal striving towards intergration with nature. Rich in symbolism, the figure simultaneously holds attributes in each of his hands. In the lower right-hand he holds his own broken tusk, and the lower-left hand he holds a delicacy 'Modaka', sweets which he samples with his trunk. In the two hands behind him, he holds a conch in the upper left hand, while the upper right hand holds the sutra Cast in the lost wax method, the bronze surface has a wonderfully dry patina, naturally aged to a deep chocolate brown colour, with normal wear, pitting, and is scattered overall in a beautifully layer of efflorescence of green and bluish-green malachite oxidation. The figure dates to the 13th century.
