Offered for your consideration is this Rare large Fred Zimbalist CELLO Music Box. This music box is a Fred Zimbalist Creation. This cello stands 15" in height and opens and winds from the back. There is a clasp at the top back to open. It has a Swiss Thorens movement and plays "The Anniversary Song" It is in working order and plays when the back is opened. The inside of the case is also decorated and there is a small fold out jewelry or storage compartment.  The cello sits on a lovely hand tooled base that measures 5 1/4" square. The lovely, ornate case is nickel silver and is beautifully hand chased all over. The case was hand chased in India completely by hand without the use of any machines. The casting is also done by hand with sand molds.  The cases were then shipped to Fred Zimbalist in Cleveland, Ohio where he fitted each case with a Swiss Thorens movement.  He is well known in the music box world for his highly prized and unique Nickel Silver plated creations and each one is unique and no two were exactly the same.  Fred Zimbalist was born in Russia (1909-2003) He was an accomplished harmonica player and related to Ephram Zimbalist Sr. (famed concert violinist) He founded the Zimbalist Music Box Company which he operated out of Cleveland Ohio. The music box weighs over 6 pounds before packing.
