It's a remarkably realized, double masted sailing ship motif, reticulated crescent moon and star, nocturnal themed piece of antique early American lighting. Found very recently in a well-appointed Boston, MA early estate, it's remarkably rare, not only because of its unusual form, being a 'Double Crusie' Betty or Phoebe whale oil lamp but because it's absolutely untouched, undisturbed and largely as it was originally constituted, incredibly some 190 to 230 years ago. The cut-out, reticulated shades have nocturnal crescent moon and star nocturnal themed motif, with the finger hook at the end of the wrought iron, hand forged handle resembling a flag at the top of a mast and the tin reservoir cups, mimicking a ship's wooden hull. Amazing. All original surfaces. It would be hard to find a 200 year old piece of American primitive lighting in any better original antique condition than this.
