Picard (born 1925) Born in Montreal, P.Q., he studied paintings of Great Masters in public libraries then took drawing classes at the École des Beaux-Arts, Montreal. He became ill during his art studies and while recovering at Ste. Agathe des Monts received instruction in oils and pastels from Stanley Tresider who was convalescing alongside him. Around 1960 he studied further at San Miguel Allende Saltillo and at Vera Cruz, Mexico. A figurative painter he held his first solo show at the Morency Gallery, Montreal in 1948, and subsequently a number of solo shows, including one held at the Ottawa Little Theatre in 1959 when Carl Weiselberger described his Laurentian landscapes as gentle, romantic, pleasantly handled with commendable skill in projecting atmosphere with mist and fog brewing over the hills and lakes. In 1959 Picard with car and trailer set out with his family on a North American painting and exhibition tour for eighteen months holding solo shows in Washington, D.C.; Richmond, Va.; Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; New Orleans, La.; Baton Rouge, La.; Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston, Texas; and in numerous locations in Mexico then returned north to Quebec in 1961. About 1966 he acquired an old house built in 1830 which is situated four miles from Sorel on the banks of the Richelieu River. He restored the house for a home and studio and gallery which he has named Atelier-Galerie, Arts et Artisans. There he displayed his own work and the work of artisans. His own solo shows include: Galerie Antoine, Mtl. (1958); Galerie L'Art Français, Mtl. (1958); l'Hôtel Laurentien, Mtl. (1959); Ottawa Little Theatre, Ott.
