This is not really a biography of David Curwen, but a fascinating collection of humorous anecdotes that parallel his life. The book starts with his early schooling and leads through to his working as a mechanic/engineering at the local garage, and aircraft works, and then his experiences in running his own engineering works.
Starting in the motor trade in the 1930s with stories of then current cars and motorcycles, then onto generating plant and finally to locomotive construction. As a designer and builder of small-guage locomotives David Curwen has a reputation second to none.
His experiences include: building steam cars; building miniature locomotives; Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society; running a 1936 Sentinel Steam lorry in the 1950's; building 7 1/4" gauge locomotives for tourist railways; and much more.
In 2006, at the age of 93, David Curwen was still building locomotives in his home workshop.
