Antique Mortise Lockset; Brass Knobs, Backplates, & Face plate. For sale is One (1) Sargent & Company (New Haven, Connecticut) Antique Mortise "Easy Spring" Lockset--Complete except for the Skeleton Key, Strike Plate, and mounting screws. Includes the Steel "Sargent & Company "Easy Spring" Steel Lock Body (with a solid brass face plate). The latch bolt, dead bolt, and hub inside the lock body are also all solid brass. The Two (2) Round Door Knobs are solid brass, as are the Two (2) Backplates. The spindle is steel with brass set screws. The lock body was opened and cleaned. The inside appeared to be in very good condition with no excessively worn or damaged parts. The latch portion of the lock works great. The deadbolt was not tested, but the tumblers and springs are intact and in good working condition. The lock body measured 4 11/32" tall (not including face plate) and 3 11/32" deep (including the face plate) x 9/16" wide or thick. The thickness of the lock body varies from the 9/16" overall thickness, as there are a couple of raised areas. Right behind the face plate in the area of the latch bolt it is 7/8" thick. In the area of the skeleton key insert it is build up to 11/16". The brass face plate on the lock body measured 6 1/16" tall x 1 1/16" wide. The spindle was 9/32" x 9/32", and has three adjustment holes on one side and four on the other. The two backplates measured 6 1/2" tall x 2 1/8" wide x 3/64" thick. The backplates each weighed approximately 2.88 ounces. The diameter of the spindle hole on the back is 1/2", while the diameter of the hole on the front where it meets the knob is 23/32". The raised rings that cover the ends of the knobs are loose and spin freely on top of the backplate. It looks like they could be peened or flattened on the back, thus tightening them against the face of the backplate. The backplates and knobs were cleaned and polished. They could be additionally polished and clear coated with lacquer or other coating, or left to revert to a darker patina. The knobs measured 2 1/4" in diameter, with a relief of 2 5/32". The knobs each weighed 4.16 ounces. There is some wear on the knobs, and the plates; and other minor nicks, dings and rubs from years of use, but overall, these items appear to be in very good condition for their age. The estimated age on this lockset is from 1880 to 1910. NOTE: This will be shipped disassembled to better protect the finished surfaces on all of the pieces. It is super easy to reassemble, and the set screws on the knobs are in great working order. NOTE: Does not come with skeleton key or Strike Plate. Does not come with mounting screws.
