Originally plated, 7/8" high, symmetrical, with slender ball terminal beams. Plain central swell. Fine glossy patina Saxons were late to accept Christianity and did so only after their defeat by Charlemagne in the early 9th century. It's possible that these crosses were worn as an indication of that acceptance and by extension, submission to Carolingian rule.
