This is a nice lot of eight (8) figures from Set No. 316 The Victorian Mounted Rifles, Australia, Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee Procession, 1897. The lot includes an officer and seven (7) other ranks. Nostalgia models are 54mm scale figures made in the style of old toy soldiers. Nostalgia models represent different regiments of Armies of the British Empire. Research for the figures was done by Shamus O. D. Wade of London, England. The original models for the series were created by Janet Evelyn Scroby, the eminent military sculptress. The production side was presided over by her husband, Frank Scroby. In Fall, 1980, Andrew P. J. Rose took over the creation and production the series. The Nostalgia line was produced from 1974 until 1985. Less than 60 sets of eight (8) pieces, by Andrew Rose, were produced for this set; in original red pebble Nostalgia Models box.

“The Victorian Mounted Rifles were raised in the State of Victoria in 1885. By 1888, they had become a successful and effective force. By 1891, they had expanded enough to divide into two battalions, one based in Melbourne and one in Ballarat.”

“Major-General J. Bevan Edwards, CB, in his report to the Victorian government in 1899 wrote, ‘No part of your force will be greater use in war than the Mounted Rifles, and it is the arm most suited to the defense of the Australian Colonies if an enemy effected a landing on your shores’. On the formation of the Australian Commonwealth, the Victorian Mounted Rifles contributed to all regiments of Australian Light Horse based in Victoria.” (Shamus O. D. Wade )

In 1914, it assumed the title 15th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) headquartered at Seymour, Victoria. It later assumed the title 20th (Victorian Mounted Rifles) Light Horse Regiment. In 1948 the regiment was renamed the 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles. In 1992, it linked with the 4th/19th Prince of Wales's Light Horse . Alliances include the Royal Dragoon Guards (United Kingdom), The Queen’s Royal Hussars (Queen’s Own and Royal Irish) (United Kingdom), and The King’s Royal Hussars (United Kingdom).
