Oh My! This is a really gorgeous and interesting petrified wood round from McDermitt, Oregon - one of the most prized petrified wood sources in the US! While it appears porous I promise you'll be amazed at how much nicer and highly polished this round is in person than the photo can capture - it's very well agatized and VERY richly colored!  You can even make out some knots in the face of this one.  A true collector piece, professionally prepared in our shop with a mirror finish the likes of which few can deliver!

This is a really beautiful specimen of the petrified wood found in a desolate sagebrush desert that spans over 100 square miles on the Oregon/Nevada border. It's a slice from a perfectly preserved ring porous hardwood, with absolutely gorgeous gem quality agate in warm, natural wood tones preserving this ancient fossil. I love collecting good petrified hardwoods because they tend to capture the details of the original tree better than other types of petrified wood and they present such an intriguing puzzle to identify. We're stocking small illuminated handheld microscopes in our eBay store now for those hobbyists who would like to start experiencing another dimension to petrified wood collecting - you'll be immediately drawn into another world when you start looking at petrified wood under magnification and this beauty is a great one to appreciate both ways! The exterior is still ash white - colored by the ancient volcanic blast that buried this prehistoric forest but the inside is a richly colored array of gem quality agate that preserved the wood grain beautifully in every detail! The cell structure from the growth rings in this attractive fossil specimen are amazingly well preserved, especially in the lighter colored regions. The rays and the cells appear to be black ash and I'm as confident as this amateur can be at the identification (pretty distinct wood grain). The pit that this log came from are unique even for this excellent location because of the slightly honeycombed wood structures and the rich color infusion. A nice, larger specimen I'm confident you'll be proud to add to your own collection!

This excellent round comes from one of Oregon's premier petrified wood deposits known to collectors the world over. If you don't have a specimen from this area, this would be a dandy to get you acquainted!! It's cut from the center of a nicely shaped log that allows you to see the medullary rays and other cell features with your naked eye (although it takes good eye sight to see fibers that small). This specimen has been carefully polished to show off all the gemmy detail inside. It took a beautiful polish and has just a few hints of red in some of the cells (probably from the nearby cinnabar deposits)! It's another one of those beautiful fossil treasures that some happy Sticks-in-Stones customer is going to flip over!

This collector grade round measures about 6 1/4" across the polished face and is cut approx. 0.38" thick.  Weighs 0.82 lbs.

Display stand shown is sold separately.

A nice, unique naturally wonderful stone collectible exclusively from Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary.
