This 60-page book was published in 1909 , and contains 36 pages of text on the fossils of this formation, followed by ten plates of photos of the fossils themselves. This is a great book that will be of interest to any fossil collectors or residents of this beautiful area. This study and a few previous ones established the age of the Ouray limestone, but this study sought to further clarify some aspects of the formation and its relations to adjacent formations. It provides some great perspective on the work that was done to sort out these formations that were relatively new to science, and many of the fossils described within were new species and genera. The Ouray limestone was originally identified just outside of Ouray, not surprisingly, but is present in other locations around SW Colorado. But I think the coolest part of this is the ten plates of fossils in the back of the book, in which there are dozens of fossils of different sorts pictured. Many are very well preserved and very cool looking. Almost all the fossils are shown at actual size unless otherwise indicated, so most of them are a nice size to collect. Whatever your interest in these fossils, this book has something for everybody, and ought to be of interest tp fossil collectors, armchair paleontologists, or residents of this area. A scarce, vintage item seldom seen or offered.
