This is a fabulous and substantial solid silver vesta case made during the reign of King Edward VII. Curved in form, it has a smooth engine turned finish throughout giving it a ‘bark’ effect. Very distinctive .There is a blank cartouche on the front which means that the lucky purchaser could personalise it should they so wish. It feels tactile to hold and is made from a good gauge of silver. A super vesta case made by the respected silversmiths, Horton & Allday.

Condition is superb. There are no splits, dents or repairs, just the usual light surface scratches and marks commensurate with a piece of silver which is 122 years old.The hinge is strong, has a snap shut closing action and the lid has a nice tight fit when closed. The strike plate is unusual in design and it seems that a patent was lodged to have it registered (352677). This is a highly desirable vesta case which would compliment any collection. My photographs confirm condition, however further images are available if required.

Hallmarks are crisp and show Birmingham 1902, the maker being Horton & Allday (Alfred George Horton and Harry Allday). Established in 1860, the business operated from premises in Warstone Lane, Birmingham and had showrooms in Piccadilly Circus, London. As manufacturing silversmiths, they produced a wide and varied range of products through to the 1930’s.The quality of their work is reflected in this super vesta case.

The case measures 5cm x 4.5cm and weighs a healthy 38g.

Many thanks for looking and good luck with your bidding. I will be listing more silver items from my private collection over the coming weeks and hopefully there will be something of interest to you.

Please note that I am unable to accept bidding from customers in China.
