Here's a funny, almost funnel shaped bud base (possibly a saki serving bottle) from the Pachl era as director of the CERAMICS DEPARTMENT at the UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA SCHOOL OF MINES ('50's - 1970) . This piece is 5" tall with a base 2-1/2" wide. It is a hand thrown piece that conics smoothly up to about mid-height of the vase and then sharply narrows to a small top opening. The glaze color is a greenish gray color with spiraled grooves the full height of the vase. The are numerous full length runs of glaze which show a slightly different color. The piece is factory mint, (or school mint) but does have a couple flaws in the making. The top rim has a glazed over chip visible in photo 2. It also appears that part of the base peeled away at some stage (while it was wet) leaving a sharp base edge over about a 3/4" arc. The black UND, GRAND FORKS ND mark was applied after the peeling. Also it appears that the small part of the original base surface remaining had some incised numbers implying that this may have also been a trial piece. Prior to bidding, please read the information on payment, return policy and on international shipping. Thanks. |
