Bensley The Third Edition, Revised. This is the revised and expanded edition of this monumental work, the edition that was subsequently reprinted by numerous publishers. Profusely illustrated with frontispiece engraving and 61 copper-engraved plates including a plan for furnishing and decorating an entire room. Bound together in this edition is the ‘Appendix’, containing an additional 40 copper-engraved plates, and ‘An Accompaniment’, containing an additional 14 copper-engraved plates. A list of subscribers follows. These plates, many of them folding, show furniture designs, Greek columns, studies of perspective, and detailed drawings for embellishments to furniture and rooms. The Cabinet-maker and Upholsterer's Drawing Book was issued in 49 separate parts between 1791 and 1794. His designs were intended "to exhibit the present taste of furniture" and "at the same time to give the workman some assistance." They represent an advance upon the neoclassic designs of Robert Adam and George Hepplewhite in the direction of even greater elegance and refinement. Very scarce in any condition, this copy is remarkably well preserved for its 210+ years (one folding plate with small tears to the crease (as pictured), the only copy of this enlarged version online is asking $12,500 (rebound), this copy is in it's original binding.
