Originally, this clay artifact ( 3 inches (77 mm) long) likely looked like a "Y" - I have seen other Vinca artifacts like this that some have interpreted as representing bull's horns. When I first looked at the one end, it looked like it might have been meant to be an animal's head (with eyes), but I maybe reading into something that is not there. What is interesting about this artifact is that there is a deep hole in the base - perhaps it was meant to go on something like a stick? Although there are many fake complete figurines floating around Europe, this fragment is almost certainly authentic based upon the construction and wear (and the fact that it is just a fragment). I acquired it a few years ago from a German antiquities dealer. Please check out my other current and future auctions for more Vinca items.I am a historian by profession and I have been collecting for many years and have acquired many items from reputable antiquities dealers and sources. I am thinning out my personal collection and inventory, so check out my other auctions (and in the coming weeks) for more ancient items, including Roman, Vinca and Bronze Age, Medieval, Native American and Civil War artifacts, dive recovered items from Bermuda and historical paper. I will combine shipping upon request. Material: Pottery
