Seller: Top-Rated Seller parelics (2,942) 100%, Location: Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 401537189104 VINCA CULTURE DECORATED PORTION OF A CLAY IDOL - 5700-4500 B.C.E. This etched/decorated clay artifact (1 1/2 inches tall (38 mm)) appears to be the bottom half of an idol or figurine of the type that is typical of the Vinca Culture. Based upon an examination of other Vinca figurines, it appears that the portion of the figurine that is shown in the main photograph might be long hair (etched line) falling between two bumps (buttocks). If that is the case, than the protrusion on the other side might have been intended to represent a penis. Although there are many fake complete figurines floating around Europe, this fragment is almost certainly authentic based upon the construction and wear (and the fact that it is just a fragment). I acquired it a few years ago from a German antiquities dealer. Please check out my other current and future auctions for more Vinca items.I am a historian by profession and I have been collecting for many years and have acquired many items from reputable antiquities dealers and sources. I am thinning out my personal collection and inventory, so check out my other auctions (and in the coming weeks) for more ancient items, including Roman, Vinca and Bronze Age, Medieval, Native American and Civil War artifacts, dive recovered items from Bermuda and historical paper. I will combine shipping upon request. Material: Pottery
