Seller: parelics (2,902) 100%, Location: Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 401544780037 VINCA CULTURE TWO LARGE BASES OF BOWLS OR IDOLS - 5700-4500 B.C.E. Two clay artifacts that are clearly bases, probably for large bowls or idols. The larger of the two is broken in half (it measures 2 1/2 x 2 x 1 1/4 inche) and is made from a dark gray or black clay. The bottom of this piece is very cool because you can see swirls that were likely left by a tool used by the person who made it. The second piece is a lighter gray color - 2 1/8 diameter across the bottom, 1 3/4 inches tall. There is a straight line across the base and a couple of other marks on it, but I do not know if these were made intentionally. I acquired them in 2009 from a German antiquities dealer - they originally were a part of a old private collection of Vinca artifacts. Please check out my other current and future auctions for more Vinca items.I am a historian by profession and I have been collecting for many years and have acquired many items from reputable antiquities dealers and sources. I am thinning out my personal collection and inventory, so check out my other auctions (and in the coming weeks) for more ancient items, including Roman, Vinca and Bronze Age, Medieval, Native American and Civil War artifacts, dive recovered items from Bermuda and historical paper. I will combine shipping upon request. Material: Pottery
