The first thing that I remind them of is that shipping also includes handling. The convenience of buying a hard to find item here on Ebay should be taken into consideration when you consider the price and the shipping of an item. Gone are the days that you will purchase a brand new item for dollars less then it costs in stores. It is not cost effective for a seller to stay in business by offering an item for less then it costs to buy. When a buyer considered shipping, they should look at what other sellers are offering, what are they listing their items. Buyers should also consider what else is involved in shipping a product. If you have decided to purchase an item and it is offered by many sellers you need to consider the price of the item and the shipping as a whole. I find it funny that a person will complain about purchasing an item for 1 cent and pay $6.99 for shipping, but will applaud when purchasing an similar item for $5.00 and pay $3.00 in shipping. Make sure as a buyer that you are aware of the shipping charge and if you find that it is too high then do not purchase the item. Do not email the seller and ask for a special shipping charge because you purchased multiple items. If the seller was going to offer a discount for purchasing multiple items, they would state it in the auction. I just find it curious that some sellers will offer combined shipping and start out their shipping at $7.99 and each additional item at 4.99 and buyers will purchase because they are getting combined shipping. However, a buyer looking to purchase a similar group of items will complain that they are paying $3.99 from another seller for each auction. When you buy something online at another store, let say Target, does your shipping decrease with the number of items that you purchase? There are usually shipping deals on other websites but they involve a certain minimum amount of purchase or a expensive subscription. Again, if you feel the price of the item and shipping charge, when added together, is too much, don't buy. Shipping should be considered shipping and handling. There is not a seller out there that does not have to travel to find the item that they are selling. A seller must take time to properly package your item. A seller must assure that it get sent in a timely manner and a seller must purchase the mailing materials. When I first started selling on ebay, I typically charged the exact shipping and absorbed the price of the mailing materials, gasoline to the store and post office, and the time invested in finding and mailing your item. Let's say that I did do well with my auctions. Last but not least, I have noticed that over the last nine years that feedback has become a tool of terror for most sellers. Feedback should be used to alert other buyers of good and bad sellers. Many sellers fail to leave feedback till after the buyer has left feedback. This way they have some type of retaliation, in cases of where a buyer leaves negative feedback. I believe that a seller should leave prompt feedback if the buyer has paid for the product in a timely manner or has contacted the seller explaining when payment has been sent. I have held to this practice but I can see why some sellers do not. Recently I have received feedback from buyers that state the speed of the delivery was super fast but are disappointed that the shipping charge does not match that on the envelope. I have never had a person state in their feedback that they paid less for shipping that was actually paid. Which has happened on some occasions. I have considered offering the exact shipping charge but that would involve a lot more headache and time on my end, which I again would not be reimbursed. This is now starting to sound like a rant, so I will end with this advice. Make sure to look at the item price and the shipping charge and compare it too other items that are being offered. If you see that one seller is offering the item for less, buy it from them. Do not request for combined shipping if it is not offered. Leave feedback for sellers who are honest and upfront and do not complain about an item that you did not fully research. Thanks for your interest !
