Vintage Gray Fris Edam Covered Sugar Bowl - Made in Holland-Pre-owned
Covered Sugar Bowl in Gray with white interior. 4-1/2" opening, 3-1/2" high. Overall size is about 5-1/2"
Ceramic Industries N.V. Fris was established in Edam and existed from 1947 to 1969. The main designer attached to the plant was Willem de Vries. There are a number of different sets produced and in addition loose objects such as vases, flower pots, cups and saucers. This ceramic is characterized by an elegant and well-balanced design in which ease of use was in the foreground. The shape and color of the pottery were inspired by the ideas developed by the Bauhaus and New Objectivity. In the first years of the existence of the factory much pottery was turned by hand, then became more and more molded articles. From 1947 onward were tea, coffee and breakfast tableware manufactured in addition to loose items for domestic use, such as milk jugs, teat cups, shells, coffee and tea pots and saucers and the more luxurious use ceramics such as vases. These items were made in gray, blue princess, jade, old-rose, green, yellow, light and dark.
