VINTAGE KLAGETOH NAVAJO RUG - CENTER DIAMOND - GREY, DEEP RED, WHITE, BROWNS. Item Description:
This vintage Navajo rug shows an attractive classic Klagetoh design with a single center diamond in deep red, white highlighted with a grey background and black border. It measures 44" by 25 1/2". This rug is in good vintage condition with no holes or stainsand all of the selvage intact. There is a black velcro strip attached to the top of one end which was used to hang the rug for display. The velcro strip is the kind that has some adhesive on one side. So it is held in place by the adhesive and has been stitched in place as well. I was able to lift it off the rug at one end, so it could be left on and used to hang the rug or it could be removed. Klagetoh weavings are identified with an area about fifteen miles south of Ganado, New Mexico. They are sometimes confused with Ganado weavings. But, in Klagetoh weavings the predominant background color is usually grey rather than red. In Navajo, Klagetoh translates to "Underneath or hidden water".
