Seller: myhorsemack (436) 100%, Location: Uxbridge, Ontario, Ships to: CA, US, Item: 323308184656 ***VERY RARE FIND*** Up for sale is a vintage letterpress engraved die printing plate or lithoplate, engravers plate, made of aluminum or zinc. It has a hardwood block backing. It is a REVERSE image . It is from circa 1945 and is the cover of a puzzle box made in Canada by a company called Ontex. The puzzle is called "Little Friends" and pictures a cute little lamb, with some bunnies, ducks, chickadees, etc. It also says "easy picture puzzles" and "Ontex #112 Made in Canada", and "Easy picture puzzles For little hands". It measures 12.25 inches high X 9.5 inches wide X 7/8 of an inch thick. The process for printing with these engraved plates uses a different plate for each color. The one being sold here was used for the blue ink. The wood on the front has a bluish tint to it, from the printing process. The name "Brigdens Limited Engravers Toronto", is stamped on the wood edge. Brigdens was a company that employed a lot of talented artists that did engraving and etching in the printing industry in the 1920s, 30s, 40s etc. This is an amazing piece of art and rare and unique, and really amazing to look at, because it is a reverse image. You can hang it as is, or put it into a frame. A great piece of printing history! Especially because now it's all done with lasers and scanners etc. These were printed with huge cast iron printing presses! The last photo shown is a photo of an actual puzzle box made from this plate. (I do not have the puzzle, just showing photo so you can see actual real image). Buyer pays shipping. Tracking and insurance included. ****NOTE***. Please check my other listings, as I have a printing plate for sale for the 2 puzzles that came with this. They are combined on the one plate. If you buy this plate and the other one being sold, I can combine the shipping. Thanks.
