Vintage Makonde Ebony Wood African Tribal Carving Framed Shadow Box 3D Hand Carved Pictorial Folk Art Sculpture Made in Tanzania During the 1950's and 60" the amazing hand carved artwork of the Makonde people from Mozambique and Tanzania was highly sought after. These pieces were reliefs from a tree piece and 3-dimensional individuals. This gorgeous piece is of 3 people; 2 women and 1 man going about their daily life. The expert craftsmanship of the individuals themselves appear to have been carved right from the base! All framed in a shadow box surrounded by a hand carved frame. The Makonde artisan who created this unique one-of-a-kind piece of artwork did it in ebony and painstakingly created each piece as individuals. The pictoral was designed to create a simple, but elegant work of art that you would be proud to display! The piece measures approximately 13" tall x 10-1/8" wide. The shadow box and frame have been sealed together and the hanger has been securely screwed onto the box. It is in impeccable vintage condition. The pictoral pieces and the frame have all been hand carved and do have unique characteristics, however there is no damage, nor has there been any repairs made. The piece was originally purchased through Art n' Frame in Tanzania. Art n' Frame is a central location, making available most works of art from Tanzanian artists. Tanzanian, with its untempered natural beauty, is inspirational for the growing colony of talented artists from all walks of life. Art n' Frame is home ground for art-lovers and artisans who often have difficulty finding an outlet for their work. Happy to Combine Shipping on items purchased and shipped together.
