H Northwood's first but unsuccessful attempt was in Martinsferry OH, 1887.The Wheeling Factory did well - and was the site at which Northwood developed his recipe for Carnival-Glass. Other types of glass made here was Custard, Goofus (no idea), Opalescent, and Stretch-Glass - in several patterns, designs, and item forms. The "circled and underlined N" LOGO hallmark was used from 1905-1915 - this plant closed in 1925. L G Wright copied the Northwood LOGO for a period of time and was legally forced to stop its use.Carnival Glass (aka - Aurora Glass, Dope Glass, Rainbow Glass, Tafetta Glass and more ...) is described as molded or pressed-glass, often with a pattern, ALWAYS with a shiny, metallic rainbow-iridescent surface shimmer - made by MANY Makers of the era (at its height of popularity in the 1920s) and available in many colours - (by applying metallic salts to the glass, while still hot from form manufacture, then firing to bring the colours to life).
