Victorian Teniers Style Silver Plated Wine goblet. Profusely detailed in relief depicting characters drinking and frolicking in the style of Dutch painter David Teniers above the stepped circular base. Marked to the underside of the base for John Grinsell & Sons, Birmingham circa 1870.
Goblets measure approximately 4 7/8 inches high, a 3.5 inch opening and a 2.5 inch base.
In 1871 John Grinsell started a business in Birmingham, England with his sons (Thomas Bywater Grinsell, James Erazmus Grinsell, Lorenzo Grinsell and Joseph Charles Grinsell) as John Grinsell & Sons. The firm specialized in the manufacture of silver-mounted glass, stoneware and ceramic items. It was ultimately bought by the notable Birmingham firm, Barker Ellis & Co Ltd.
The item is an antique and is sold as is. The item may show wear, fading, scratches, pitting, dents, original imperfections and/or damage from normal use. I note significant wear to silver plating allowing the underlying metals as shown in photos. Examine photos carefully as they are part of the description. Imperfections were factored into pricing. No returns or refunds.
