In excellent vintage condition. All original parts. Glass is clear and damage free. Spun aluminum shade is still shiny and retains its original Alzak coating. Some patina on metal components; wear on manufacturers' tag., Maker: Appleton Electric Co., Material: cast aluminum, spun aluminum, glass, Details: Here's an exceedingly rare and simply stunning 1930s vintage Dust-Tight Lighting Fixture, Type DTLA, from the Appleton Electric Co. of Chicago. This robust fixture features a cast-aluminum mount that has great lines and detail, including brass hardware. Attached to the mount is an 18"-diameter spun-aluminum shade that is in amazing condition, with just perhaps an ever-so-light dent or scratch here or there to belie its age. Threaded onto the mount is a HUGE, 8"-diameter glass globe in clear, undamaged condition. This listing began with 7 of these incredible fixtures (the remaining number is shown above), and they are priced individually -- you save on combined shipping when buying more than one. Each fixture has its original Appleton porcelain socket in excellent condition, sized for regular household (medium base) bulbs (LED, CFL, or incandescent). Everything on these lights is in top-notch, vintage condition with light patina and wear consistent with its age. Changing a light bulb is a simple matter of twisting off the globe -- takes 10 seconds. Each fixture includes a galvanized 1/2" iron pipe down rod that's 9" long -- you can buy a longer or shorter pipe at any hardware store in order to change the height of the fixture. We've rewired each fixture with 3' or wire to give you plenty of flexibility. The fixtures have been completely disassembled, cleaned, expertly restored, rewired, and tested. We also include a new, heavy-duty, swiveling ceiling hanger with each fixture. These lights should easily last another 80+ years! In one of the photos we included a soccer ball to give an idea of the fixture's size. In the last photo we show a 14" shade and 6" globe from a similar but smaller fixture to also give you a sense of scale. (We have a number of this same fixture in the smaller size -- if you're interested in those, please contact us. A few specs for the larger fixtures on sale here: Diameter of the shade at its rim: 18"Height of fixture only (no ceiling hanger or down pipe): 15"Total height of fixture with supplied pipe and ceiling hanger: 25" Thread diameter of globe (at open end): 5.25" Do not hesitate if you are interested in these lights -- there's a good chance you will never again have the opportunity to buy ones like them. At Industrial Antiquities we guarantee your complete satisfaction because each light is: *Completely disassembled and thoroughly cleaned. Before you buy any light, make sure it has been disassembled, cleaned, and refurbished. We've taken apart thousands of them, and believe us, when you buy them "as is" you will find many of them nearly impossible to take apart, with unsafe and inoperable parts.*Refurbished to the highest standards. Each light-fixture component, down to the tiniest fastener, is inspected and then thoroughly refurbished. Threaded parts are "chased" and lubricated as necessary to ensure everything fits snugly and precisely as it should. We try to keep fixtures as original as possible, but we don't hesitate to replace fasteners, gaskets, and other internal components as necessary, always using parts of equal or better quality than the originals. Though these old lights were generally built to a level of quality unmatched in today's world of imported light fixtures, we'll occasionally run across rusty steel screws and other fasteners that are better replaced with stainless steel or brass fasteners. If we replace any major components we always mention that in the description. Metal housings are treated in a way to restore their former glory while preserving their vintage look, then treated with a no-film corrosion inhibitor. Every fixture is different and requires a customized course of treatment, but rest assured that the fixture you are buying has been professionally restored in every way to ensure many more years of enjoyment and safe, reliable operation.*Guaranteed to work. We typically rewire each fixture with copper wire of a gauge sized appropriately for any type of light bulb intended for the fixture, including incandescent, CFL, and LED. We include extra-long wires so that you have flexibility in mounting the fixture using a longer (or shorter) pipe than we supply. Iron pipes are readily available and inexpensive to purchase, but expensive to ship due to weight, so we just think it makes sense for you to purchase those on your end rather than supply longer lengths with each light. And, of course, we test each fixture to make sure it's in perfect working order.*Accurately photographed and described. Check our outstanding feedback and know that these lights are clearly photographed, from all angles, in sharp detail, so you can see exactly what you're buying. Our descriptions are honest, accurate, and detailed. If you require any more photos or information, don't hesitate to contact us and we'll get back to you quickly.*Ready to hang. With each fixture we include an iron pipe and swiveling hanger for attachment to a ceiling junction box. The swiveling hanger ensures the fixture hangs plumb (even on sloped ceilings), and provides "give" should the fixture be accidentally bumped.*Carefully packaged. We generously pad our light fixtures in accordance with the standards established by our major shippers (FedEx, UPS, and USPS), and use sturdy boxes, often double boxing if necessary. Though these lights have prices assigned to them, in many ways we consider them "priceless" because of their rarity, beauty, and the fact that you simply cannot buy a comparable modern-day replacement -- and we keep that front of mind in thoughtfully packing every fixture. We typically ship within 24 hours of payment. Most light fixtures are slightly disassembled for safe and economical shipping -- an easy reassembly on your end. We combine shipping to save you money when buying more than one fixture.*Guaranteed to please. We can't remember the last time a customer was unhappy, but if you don't like your fixture for any reason, simply return it for a full refund. Quoted shipping is to the lower 48 states.
