Wound Badges were originally established on March 3,1918 to recognize the sacrifice of those wounded during WWI. Various classes of badges were issued, depending on the severity of the wounds inflicted (black badge for one or two wounds; silver badge for three or four wounds; and a gold badge for five or more wounds).
Made of stamped steel, this Black Wound Badge is in EXCELLENT used condition! Oval in shape, it features a high relief profile of an M16 pattern helmet over top of two crossed swords. As it is stamped in construction, the reverse is mirror image of the front. Pin and catch are both original. Some marks, wear and scratches due to the age, but VERY NICE otherwise. A PERFECT addition to any collection or display!!
