Adding a rear sway bar to your ride makes a serious handling improvement no matter what you’re asking your vehicle to do. Launch straight at the drag strip? Or take that road course or autocross track corner just a tick faster? What about an emergency evasive maneuver on the street? All these situations are aided by adding a rear stabilizer bar to your vehicle.
The decreased body roll and reduction in understeer that a rear sway bar brings to the table makes you wonder why they were not included from the factory. Truth be told, just about every car coming off the assembly line today has a rear stabilizer bar, but back in the day it wasn’t deemed necessary with the tire contact patch and tire construction/quality of the time. Today’s super grippy plus sized wheel and tire combinations absolutely benefit from adding a rear anti roll bar.
This isn’t some hollow tube rear stabilizer bar that will fold under pressure. Our splined rear sway bar is a generous .650-inch diameter (5/8-inch) of solid heat treated steel and rides in bronze bushings. The splined ends mount a pair of 6061-T6 aluminum arms that are 6-3/4-inches long, allowing the sway bar to be mounted above or below the axle housing’s center line for plenty of chassis mounting options. Be it a unibody or full frame chassis, our 5-inch long mounting tabs, positioned at 20-1/2-inches apart, provide ample positioning room for access to the sway bar if you wish to change the bar’s diameter to increase or decrease effective rate. The setup, as shipped, is rated at 176 lb/in of rate.
Weld-on axle tabs are designed for common 3-inch axle tube diameter, such as the popular 9-inch Ford housing, but can be ground/modified to fit any axle tube diameter. The included 3/8-inch rod ends act as rear sway bar end links and provide a precise solution for sway bar adjustment to ensure the anti roll bar ends are parallel to the ground and not binding at ride height. The rod end links also provide a more direct and faster sway bar input to the rear suspension than typical rubber or urethane rear sway bar end links. The overall anti roll bar length is 26-inches. Depending upon vehicle and installation location frame rail access may need to be considered for sway bar removal or make the sway bar mount a bolt in with some light fabrication work.
Our universal splined rear sway bar is an excellent value that requires a little effort to install, but the net results of how your vehicle will handle after installation will have you wondering why you didn’t install a rear bar sooner!
