ROMAN or ANGLO SAXON? ANCIENT BRONZE TANKARD DRINKING CUP MUG~RARE! Provenance: Ex - Private Estate collection.Authentic: 100%.Offered here is a guaranteed OLD & authentic hand-hammered hand crafted antique bronze handled tankard or drinking mug. IF ONLY THIS CUP COULD TALK!!!I am no antiquities expert but I know this amazing piece is extremely uncommon to find & absolutely an authentic very OLD artifact. Comparison research certainly likens it to ancient Roman or Anglo Saxon examples. Maybe even Germanic? The incredible & beautiful ancient bronze patina both inside & out is absolutely captivating. Most likely European in origin. Mug is completely hand forged & hammered with hammer marks seen on all four outer & inner rivet head surfaces which attach the handle to the body of the cup. The upper portion of the handle held by rivets & the lower portion no rivet (be design). Every surface of this mug is irregular with dimples, some shallow dents /dings, lines, & contours...just oozing with character & age!! Overall has a somewhat graceful primitive look to it, yet close examination shows how finely it is crafted with nice curved lines. Does not look like a dug artifact but inner surfaces do have the ancient greenish & reddish surface yet not overly rough with encrustations to the touch. Outer surfaces have the best of the best reddish deep rich age patina. Looks like there was also a very OLD repair with a silvery metal near the base of the mug. I could see this possibly used as an old grog mug or tankard. Maybe even a Navy or Merchant ship's cup. A very solid sturdy & functional design!Condition & size: Still completely intact & sturdy. Could be used today! No damage or flaws other than any ancient repairs. Measures about 5.5" (inches) tall & weighs about just less than 1.5 pounds. 4.5" widest diameter including handle.FOR COMBINED SHIPPING ON MULTIPLE PURCHASES - PLEASE ADD TO CART & "REQUEST TOTAL FROM SELLER".
