HUGE antique 18th century wrought iron trade sign wall bracket hanger hook. 18th century large hand made wrought iron trade sign wall bracket .This is wrought and forged from solid iron and is very heavy . It would have been made by a blacksmith, who would have heated the iron and then hammered it into shape. The bracket would have been designed to support the weight of a trade sign, which could be made of wood, metal, or glass. The design of the bracket would often reflect the trade of the business it was advertising. For example, a baker's shop might have a bracket in the shape of a pretzel, while a blacksmith's shop might have a bracket in the shape of a horseshoe.
These brackets are now considered to be decorative antiques and can be quite valuable.
